I have completed my Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award and in doing so, gained many valuable skills. As part of the award we had to plan a walk along a set route and orientate our way to the appropriate camp site. At some points the team lost motivation (for example, when we thought were lost). I took over the map reading and encouraged everyone not to give up, I then looked around me, established land marks and lead my team to an area that was easier to navigate. I learnt team work, leadership skills, how to motivate a team and how to deal with pressurised situations. The experience taught me to keep calm in difficult situations and keep the group together. I am proud of myself for carrying out the award and making it to the campsite earlier than we had planned.
The experience different to anything I had tried before and I enjoyed the challenges of stepping out of my comfort zone and facing unknown situations.
